New feature: duplicate a sighting

It's relatively common for people to upload sightings which may actually contain multiple species.

E.g. photos of a plant that may also have captured an insect on one of the leaves OR a photo containing 2 birds where it may be unclear which bird species the sighting is pertaining to.

Thanks to funding from NSW BCT, it is now much easier to duplicate a sighting, effectively splitting it into 2 separate, but similar records, so that each species can be verified as separate and distinct sightings.

To duplicate a sighting, simply:

1. EDIT an existing sighting

2. Click the new Duplicate button

3. Make any required changes

Note that the following pieces of information have been automatically pre-populated from the original source sighting:

  • Image or audio media files
  • Latitude and longitude coordinates
  • Altitude
  • Reported Date Time

Species name and abundance are not pre-populated from the original source sighting as the new duplicate record should be of a different species.

(NatureMapr prevents the creation of an identical record of the same species at the same location on the same date/time).

4. Upload the new duplicate sighting

Click the usual Report this sighting button and you're done.

You're newly duplicated sighting will be created and include the changes that you made.

WOW. This is totally awesome! especially as some insects and birds are only found on certain plants - and the plant information you have to type in and its not a drop down field. <3 :) I will be testing it out.
