Gudgeon and Sleeper Gobies
GUDGEON
Gudgeon (Genus Gobiomorphus) are small, benthic (lives in the lowest level of water) fish with large, rounded fins and two dorsal fins. Many have an amphidromous lifecycle: the eggs are laid in fresh water, but the fry are dispersed to sea soon after hatching, and grow there for several months before returning to fresh water. Being small and benthic means that they are unlikely to be seen. Being amphidromous also means that they will not be common in the CNM region.
Of the fives species of Gudgeon found in the region, most are rare and so any sightings are important.
